Biography


FARSHAD MOHAMMADI began studying the santour from an early age. His principle teachers were Faramarz Payvar, Parviz Meshkatian and Pashang Kamkar.

Farshad’s Contemporary approach to Persian Music is in line with the requirements of the developing cultures and made him faithful in expanding the traditions by engaging in various collaborations and different musical participations.

Broadcast ventures include collaboration with the BBC World Service in London and Dutch radio station Easy 97.9 FM and presenting a recital of Persian santour music for ITV1 (UK).

He has recorded as a soloist, accompanist and continuo player working with ensembles including Nonawa, Hamraz, Chavosh, Roshani, Hafez and Hayden trio alongside some of the great masters of Persian and world music. His recording credits include Ashk for Kalan Music, Window of Hope (Mohesn Keramaty).

Farshad has also composed the scores for Finding Memet by Sadek Asha and A line on the Sand, a Film by Chris Taylor for ITV UK; Sufi Trance, a film by Christine Williams for BBC Prime (winner of the best short film in Chicago International Film Festival, nominated for the best sound effects for the Edinburgh Festival).

His recent concert engagements include,  Tour of North America, Cagliary Folk music festival in Sardinia, the Asia World Music in Malaysia and Singapore, Düsseldorf World music festival, Rotterdam World Music Festival, Berlin Traditional Music Festival,  Brighton Festival, Nottingham Music Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Festival Dag Oude Muziek (Belgium) and the ATTAR music Festival in London (Path of Farid Al-din, Attar).

He has also performed as a soloist in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Farshad has participated in various seminars, conferences and work shops in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Canada, US and England and has been giving performance and Santour Lessons at the University of London for several years.

Farshad studied his master of Ethnomusicology Performance at SOAS university of London and is currently studying for his research program in London.
