It has been a tradition for the percussion instruments to accompany the melodic instruments, in a metered rhythmic manner. In this way the percussion instruments play along or in some cases play the rhythmic configurations of the melodies being played.

Baran Ensemble has broken this rule by experimenting a new method or better say implementing a new experience by looking at the traditional system, the other way round.
This means that the melodic instrument adapts a percussive role and the main sentences are to be played and introduced by the actual percussion instruments.

The actual grounding or the basis is to be maintained by Santour whilst the percussions create different variations and miscellaneous rhythms. This clearly differs the new style with the old framework.

It is inevitable that the Santour would produce a melodic resemblance to the original method, but the melodic sentences have an effective texture to which follows the pattern established by the percussion. In this way the tuning of the percussion instruments have to synchronise with the chose tuning of the Santour and also the sentences played by percussionist will lead the santour to improvise on the spot based on the mood of the performance. However Santour should always complete and adomment the percussive sentences whilst improvising with the framework of the Persian repertoire system. In this format Santour has to act in very percussive manner and perhaps amongst all the Persian instruments it is the best choice that could satisfy such reflection.

Performing long rhythmic sentences with the effect of old cycles, rhythmic fractures and creating suitable joints in connecting the sentences with an emphasising approach to the each sentence one after each other are part of the main priorities of our Ensemble.

Of course to accomplish such goal the musicians require to use contemporary methods of performance alongside the authentic rules and regulation that creates attraction and excitement amongst its audience, hence the influence it has on the mind of the auditor. One should always remember without high standards of performance capabilities from the musicians of this ensemble such aim can never be achieved.
